Staples Business Advantage, the B2B arm of Staples in the US, had a problem: Amazon for Business was siphoning off more and more of their customers. While it was hard to match Amazon’s prices and seemingly endless selection, there was one thing Staples had that Amazon didn’t: actual people you could talk to. But focusing on humanity didn’t mean taking a stance against AI and automation. (After all, Staples uses both as well.) It meant showing what is possible when human intuition and experience are supplmented by technology and data.
